Celebrating Student Birthdays
I’m a huge proponent of recognizing student birthdays. I know that all families do not celebrate birthdays in the same way, but in my classroom this is one way to help children feel valued and important. It’s a way to build that classroom community and acknowledge that we all bring something special. Over the years trends have definitely changed when it comes to recognizing birthdays in the classroom, but here are the things that I’m loving to share with students on their big days right now ( all links are afifliates)>

Birthday Treats for School
Over the years I’ve seen so many different birthday treats that children of all ages have shared with the class. Some are absolute hits – and others make teachers want to cry (I’m looking at you neon frosted cupcakes…). Here are some of the easiest ideas that are an absolute hit with kids. This year my daughter is taking Stitch stickers in to her classmates for her birthday – It’s easy for her teacher to manage and they cost me less than $7. I call that a win!

Birthday Activities for Preschool
It’s a big week for us, my daughter’s birthday is this week! We decided to make this the theme for this week because you only get a birthday once a year, we might as well make the most of it. Here are some of the activities that we’ve leaning into in order to explore birthdays and build an understanding of all the different ways that these can be celebrated. Looking at photos from previous birthdays – This would be an excellent activity to do with the whole class. Encouraging children to bring in photos from last year’s celebration, or going back even farther to see images of them as babies…

Easy DIY Birthday Party
We celebrated my girl’s birthday while camping last weekend and it was low-key, while still being everything she wanted! Kid’s birthday parties can get expensive really fast – especially if your child requests a character theme – but they absolutely don’t HAVE to be expensive. I was able to give her a Gabby’s Dollhouse Birthday Party using supplies from the Dollar Tree and craft stores, without breaking the bank. All of the decorations were DIY – banners that I designed, printed, and cut, and lots of yarn tassels and balloons. We did paper products in the color scheme, but not printed with any characters, which also saved a lot of…

It’s a Birthday!
This is a big week inn our house – we’re celebrating my daughter’s 6th birthday! We just got home from a Memorial day camping trip, and are excited to party with friends and family next weekend. This means that our week is sure to be a blur of cleaning up from one trip and preparing for the next event. I’ve got so many cute things to share after her party, you know that I’ve been DIY-ing all of it. Until then, I’m making my birthday vocabulary cards FREE on TPT until next Tuesday. Friday Freebie – Summer Birthday
Happy Friday! I was searching for a freebie to share and when I stumbled on this one it struck a nerve. I love this Summer Birthday form from Khrys Greco because I was the kid with a summer birthday. I think one year I was allowed to bring in a birthday treat on the last day of school, other than that one year I never got to celebrate my birthday at school. I think that this is a fun way to let families know that celebrating a half birthday is an option. Download your copy and have a great weekend!

Calendar work with Preschoolers
For many classrooms calendar is an essential part of the daily routine, and while I won’t go into the argument of whether this is developmentally appropriate or not, I do want to show you all something that we have in our classroom that the children love. When we began our birthday project, the first thing that we put up was a birthday calendar – each month got its own piece of paper with each child’s birthday, the birthdays are colored in so that the children can easily recognize which days are birthdays. This has helped the children really visualize the year and understand when their own birthdays are. We use…
