Halloween Teacher Gift Inspiration
I love to make sure that my daughter’s teachers (and my teacher friends) know how much we appreciate them, so I try not to let a holiday pass without sending in some goodies. Over the years I’ve shared a number of teacher gift ideas, but the favorites are always baked goods. They can share them with each other or their families, and it’s not one more mug or candle to add to their ever-growing collection. For Halloween I’ve been collecting inspiration for a variety of different cookies so that I can put together a great big gift box. Here are the types that I’m considering at the moment: I’ll be…

Preschool Science: Exploring Baking Ingredients
I have always loved baking in the classroom because it’s one of those hands on activities where children get to be involved and see changes happen right before their eyes. When I cook in the classroom I try to be super prepared so that things go smoothly. This doesn’t leave much time to actually explore the ingredients. If the children are extremely interested in the cooking experience I’ll make sure to give them extra opportunities to play with and manipulate the ingredients that we use. Here are some of the ways that I introduce these to the children; Ingredient jars: I love these little containers (they’re Tupperware)! The lids are…

DIY: Easy Dramatic Play Cookbook
I have the easiest DIY ever for you today! I always struggle with making materials for the dramatic play area because I know how much wear and tear they are going to take, but this one is perfect, I encourage teachers to add written materials to their dramatic play areas, and cookbooks are an easy fix for any kitchen or restaurant theme. You could find cookbooks at Goodwill or garage sales, but I really love cookbooks that have plenty of pictures too, and these can be harder to find. So for this “cookbook” I just used the recipes from the backs of boxes! There are a couple of ways that…

A cranberry recipe preschoolers will love
Cranberries may not be the first Thanksgiving food that your preschoolers want to try, but this easy recipe just might change their mind – and they can help make it! These cranberry tarts are made with three simple ingredients;1 package of sugar cookie doughchocolate chipswhole cranberries The only prep work that you will have to do is to cut your whole cranberries in half. Then the children can help you press spoonfuls of cookie dough into each hole in your muffin tin (you will probably need a couple of muffin tins to use all of your cookie dough). Mix the chocolate chips and cranberries together in a bowl and the…

Tried & True Teaching Tips
I’m linking up with the Teaching Tribune today for their summer blogging series. Today’s theme is tried and true teaching tips and strategies. When I thought about teaching strategies that I can count on to work, the one that came to mind was the way that I reward positive behaviors. When my students are having a really great day, I like to recognize it. It lets them know that I see how hard they are working, and how cooperative they are being, and I really appreciate it. I rarely recognize great days the same way – but my favorite way to show my students that I think they are awesome…

Baking in the classroom
I love to bake with my kids. It involves so many different learning experiences – sharing, waiting your turn, measuring ingredients, chemical reactions, temperature, vocabulary, and it is something that makes everyone smile. We are fortunate enough to have a fully equipped kitchen at our center, and we often bake things in the oven, but for truly special days I like to keep the excitement in the classroom. The last two weeks we have been baking up a storm to prepare for the holidays. One of our favorite recipes so far has been reindeer cookies. These are super easy to make – we used pre-packaged cookie dough (it is easy…
