• Making health a priority

    Putting yourself first

It’s hard to make yourself a priority! As teachers, most of us are naturally giving. We see our role as supporting others, so the idea of saying no to someone else in order to take care of ourselves feels icky – but it doesn’t have to! I’ve truly been able to change my own perspective by remembering what we’re told in any airplane safety speech; You have to put your own oxygen mask on before you can help someone else with theirs. This is true for taking care of yourself in other ways too! When we don’t take the time to give ourselves what we need – rest, fuel, mental…

  • Flu Season in the Classroom

    Teaching when you’re sick

Flu season has been a doozy this year, and it’s officially hit our home with a vengeance. While I’m not sick yet… I’ve definitely had a lot of sleepless nights, because that’s what moms do. This has me thinking about all of the times that I’ve had to manage a classroom when I definitely wasn’t at the top of my game – sick, but not sick enough to justify a day off, tired from a newborn or sick kid, fighting a migraine, dealing with personal distractions – all of the things that life throws at us! Here are the tips and tricks that have always helped me get through those…

  • Low cost hobbies

    My Current Hobbies

The cold weather has definitely kept me cooped up inside, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve been bored! I firmly believe that our hobbies make us who we are. They allow us opportunities to peek inside of ourselves and find out what makes our hearts happy. This winter there have been a few things that I’ve really enjoyed. Baking has always been one of my favorite things to do, and cookies will always be my first love. There’s a cookie for every possible occasion, and I always make sure to have the basic ingredients on hand. Classic chocolate chip are my family’s favorite. My daughter doesn’t love cake, but has…

    Planner Supplies for 2025

I see my planner as an extension of myself. That might sound a little dramatic, but I’m serious! It’s where I keep track of all of the tasks I need to complete, but it also serves as a record of special events, notes about things like snow days, birthday plans, vacation packing lists, and all of the things that are important to me and to my family. Since I use my planner as both a calendar and a scrapbook I’ve gathered quite a few materials to help really make it mine. Here are my favorite planning products for 2025 (all links are affiliates. First things first, I have to keep…

  • How I’m Using My Happy Planner

I’m a paper planner girl. I’ve tried digital options (you can even find some of my posts about them if you search), but there’s something about being able to look at the full spread, write tasks in by hand, and really turn the pages that just works for me. I’ve always had what I consider a photographic memory, and for some reason that just works better when I can visualize words written on a page – not a tablet or screen. This year I went with a big Happy Planner (affiliate link) and I couldn’t be happier – no pun intended. The price is truly unmatched. All of the other…

  • President's Day Activities

    President’s Day for Preschoolers

The best thing about February being such a short month is just how fast it flies by – we’re already well into it and President’s day is next week! Since so many schools are closed for President’s day it has a way of sneaking up on me, and this year with Valentine’s day being the Friday before, I really think it can be best to observe President’s day in the classroom after the actual holiday. Here are all of the resources that I have available to help you explore what this day means with your preschoolers. These can all be found in my TPT store. Click the images below to…

  • Snow Day with Kids

    Snow Day Ideas and Traditions

We got hit with a nasty ice storm this week, which led to our third snow day of the year (the first two were for an extreme cold snap). Since I work from home, snow days mean that my daughter is home with me. I thought I’d share some of our favorite ways to spend a snow day – but before we get to that, If you’re in a program where you end up getting more children on a snow day, here’s a post that might be helpful! Now to the fun stuff! I’m a huge fan of leaning into the absolute relaxation of a snow day. Sometimes a surprise…

  • Valentine post office play

    Valentine’s Post Office Dramatic Play

Monday I showed a cute little Valentine’s Day mailbox using my phone number and address free printable. Since you’ve got that adorable idea, I thought I’d also give some insight into what I love to add to my dramatic play center to create a Valentine’s post office. All links are affiliates! Any good post office needs stationary – and lots of options! Little ones really love to dress the part, it makes them feel much more “official.” My genius tip for post office play is to visit the flat rate shipping center at your local post office and grab a few different boxes and envelopes. These are free (until you…
