Summer Plans for a 9 Year Old
As my daughter has gotten older our summer plans have gotten more personalized. After kindergarten and first grade my goal was to keep her busy and mitigate the summer slide. After second grade she was old enough for more camps, so we added those in and focused on her favorite places to visit during the summer. Now that she is finishing third grade, summer is going to look a little different. This year she has a sleep away camp scheduled and 4H projects to complete. Those will take up the beginning of our summer, so I have the days planned out to ensure that we fit all of those tasks…

Summer Planning
The end of the school year is right around the corner (we’ve got less than a month left here), and that means it’s crunch time when it comes to planning what the summer will look like. Every year has looked a little bit different for us. As my daughter gets older and her interests change, so do our summer plans. Here are some of the ways that I’ve planned our summers over the last few years. Click on the images for more information.

Disney Cruise Line Tips and Tricks
I’m deep into prep for our third Disney cruise! Over the last couple of trips I’ve really zoned in on what works for us, and I’ve been keeping a running note in my phone of things that work well and things I want to remember. I thought I’d share these tips and tricks for Disney Cruise Line just in case you’re planning a trip of your own – and in case my list ever gets accidentally deleted! This list is in absolutely no order at all, just my random thoughts and rememberings. Wow, that was a lot! I clearly have a ton of thoughts about cruising with Disney. It’s something…

How our Family Celebrates Valentine’s Day
Our family truly loves Valentine’s Day. Over the years we’ve created meaningful traditions that feel like a natural fit and celebrate who we are as a family. We do all of this without spending a ton of money, and right now that feels like something to celebrate. So what does a frugal family Valentine’s Day look like? One of our favorite parts of any holiday is baking for others. Cookies have become a favorite gift to make because we get to use our talents and time to show others that we care. Making and decorating holiday cookies is something that I always loved doing with my mom, and now my…

Organization Hacks for Busy Days
Usually January is a bit of a relief – a slower pace after the holiday bustle. I’m not sure what happened this year, but for some reason our calendar is EXPLODING with events, practices, meetings, and rehearsals. Managing all of this is a challenge. We’re running from one event to another, squeezing in work and homework where we can. I’ve definitely been leaning into my tried and true organization hacks to help things run a little more smoothly. Here’s what works for me. Goodness knows that every trick doesn’t work perfectly, and I’m always trying new strategies. These are helpful at the moment, but if I find others that make…

Surviving Winter in the Classroom
These winter months are always the most difficult for me, and I know I’m not alone in that. They come with all of the cold and challenging weather that makes it so hard to get outside, which means children have tons of energy and way less opportunity to use it. That energy often comes out in unanticipated ways. Winter also brings us shorter, cloudier days which has a major impact on moods. Finally these months at the beginning of the year follow the excitement of the holidays and can feel like a bit of a let down after the lead up and excitement that is the rush of Halloween, Thanksgiving,…

2026 Plans
January is flying by! That’s kind of unusual – I feel like January typically draaaaaaaags on after the bustle of the holidays. This may be the busiest our family’s calendar has ever been in January so that’s definitely part of it. This year is going to be full of so much joy, here’s a little of what I’m looking forward to: My daughter is 8 and she’s truly become this person with all of her own interests and she’s doing the things that light her up. It’s wild to watch! She landed a role in our high school’s musical, is getting to perform in ice shows a couple of times…

I like to make sure that what you’re finding here is timely and helpful for whatever you’re dealing with at the moment. If there are any topics you’d like to see me cover please let me know! I’ve been sharing all…
