Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I can’t start a new year without setting some good intentions for the upcoming year.  The past few years I have chosen one word to give direction to my goals for the year. In 2015 my word was celebrate, in 2016 it was care, and last year it was prepare.  This year, the word that has been in the forefront of my mind is joy.

I’m a planner – I live for planning the next big event, whether it’s a trip, a party, or a holiday.  This holiday season I’ve been desperately trying to enjoy the moment instead of immediately beginning to plan for the next one.  I want to help myself recognize the joy throughout the entire year, instead of focusing so much on the big events.  I also know that when I pay attention to the little joys, my days are less stressful.

I’ve made myself little reminders to consciously choose to focus on joyful moment instead of stressing and worry about things that may or may not actually happen, like this little decal that I put on my laptop.

I’ve also made a list in my planner for each month so that I can write down at least one thing that brought me joy each day.

It is so easy for me to let negative thoughts and stressful situations take over, this year I’m going to do everything in my power to focus on things that bring me joy.

What is your New Year’s resolution?
