Strategies for balancing work and personal life

I just typed that title and started laughing – who am I to write about balancing my work and personal life?! I definitely don’t have it all figured out.  I spend more nights typing this little blog than I care to admit – and that’s on top of working a full time job, so I feel you!

Honestly, I think we’re all just doing the best that we can. I know that might not sound helpful if you’re really looking for some strategies, but my mantra over the last six months has been “Give yourself some credit.” Seriously, I bet there are a ton of things that you’re doing really really well.  And all those other things that you feel like you don’t have a handle on, just like Elsa said – Let it go.

That’s my strategy – give yourself a break. Right now my family eats soup and grilled cheese for dinner more than I would like, I honestly can’t remember the last time I washed my sheets, and I haven’t gotten my hair cut in nearly a year.  It’s ok because no one will remember any of that.

Of course I’m not advocating for never cleaning your home and totally forgoing all self-care, those things are important, but if they have to wait for tomorrow, then let them wait until tomorrow and don’t beat yourself up over it.

I’ve been working on choosing joy this year.  Around the middle of December I started challenging myself to write down one thing that makes me happy each day.  So far, none of those entries have been about how clean my house was or the dinner I made from scratch.

I believe that most of us chose this profession because we are givers.  We like to do whatever we can to help others grow and succeed.  That can take a lot of time and energy.  Don’t forget to be good to yourself!
