How do you use your strengths in the classroom?

Don’t worry, we aren’t talking weight training today – I just needed some very obvious symbolism for strengths! I’ve always been passionate about helping others recognize their own strengths and embrace these so that they can use them in their work. As teachers we all bring something different to the classroom and that’s a great thing. We work with children who are all very different, so they need different things from us. While this does mean that you may not personally connect with every single student that you work with, it also means that there is a great chance some children will be deeply impacted by who you are as a teacher.
So what are your strengths? These show up in so many ways – your personality, special skills, interests, and life experiences can all be strengths. How you incorporate these into the classroom is up to you. I consider myself a creative, and my students definitely knew this because we were constantly learning through hands-on projects that encouraged a lot of artistic thinking. I’m also very type A, I love organization and planning which is evident in the way that I led the classroom. I tend to be an introvert, which can be a bit more of a challenge when spending all of my days with little people who need you all the time, the strength here is that I became very good at establishing boundaries – which is a great thing for children to experience.
How are your strengths evident in the classroom?!
