Pumpkin Fine Motor Activity

If you’re stuck in a bit of a fine motor rut, this activity will shake things up a bit. These cute yarn pumpkins are super easy to make, meaning every child can feel successful with this craft. To make this fall fine motor project you’ll need 3 simple supplies; cardboard tubes, yarn, and felt.

Start by cutting your cardboard tubes down to the height you want your pumpkins to be. I was able to get two tall pumpkins by cutting a toilet paper tube in half. You’ll wrap each cardboard tube piece with yarn, passing the yarn through the middle of the tube and around the outside. It helps to make smaller balls of yarn so that they fit through your cardboard tube.

Wrap your cardboard tubes with yarn until they achieve the round look that you like. The more yarn you use, the rounder your pumpkin will be. When it gets hard to fit the yarn through the middle of the tube it’s time to add your stem. To make the stem cut a long strip of felt, roughly 2 inches by 5 inches. Roll the felt creating a felt cylinder that you can stick into the middle of your pumpkin.

These can take some time to finish, so that is the perfect activity to return to multiple times throughout the week. It would also be a great option for a quiet time activity or a craft center where children could work at their own pace.
