  • Perler Bead Alphabet Letters

I can’t take credit for this idea, I saw it on 1+1+1=1, but when I saw it on my Pinterest feed, I knew I had to try and make my own set of Perler bead alphabet letters.  I picked up the supplies at Ikea when I was there last weekend, and let me tell you, I had a blast playing with them.  I spent the entire afternoon making fun stuff, it felt like I was 10 years old again! It took a bit of time to figure out the correct shapes for the letters, but once I got the hang of it, I was off and running. I can’t wait to…

  • Foam food for dramatic play

Last week I posted my plans for our holiday cookie party at school.  I’ve been working on prepping some of the materials for our cookie shop dramatic play area , which means adding to my collection of foam cookies. I wanted to show you some of the cookies that I made before, and the new varieties that I made specifically for our party. I made all of these with sheets of craft foam, and they couldn’t be easier.  Making your own food with craft food is a great alternative to buying play food because it s really easy to customize, and it’s all flat, so it stores better than most…

This year my students are going to get to participate in trick or treating sponsored by our local businesses.  We’ve never done this before, so I’m trying to think of all of the different variables and factors that we might need to plan for.  One of the things that I’m glad I remembered was that we need treat bags for all of their goodies. I’ve been searching stores for Halloween treat bags with handles, but apparently they don’t exist.  We could always use grocery bags, but you know me, I’ve got to add my little bit of cute to everything. So what do I do when I can’t find what…

  • DIY Metallic Magnet Letters

I use magnet letters for all kinds of activities in my classroom so they are almost always on my shelves.  While I find them invaluable, I’m not so fond of the bright colors.  I found a way to make my magnet letters a little more aesthetically appealing, and I can’t believe how easy it was. I have three words for you: Metallic Spray Paint. Seriously, why did I not think of this before?! All I did was spray my plastic magnet letters with three coats of chrome spray paint (I let each coat dry before spraying on another coat). The final result is stunning, and my students couldn’t wait to…
