St. Patrick’s Day Math and Science

St. Patrick’s day is such a fun holiday to celebrate in the classroom because there are some very different opportunities for exploration than we see with other holidays. Because of this, I’ve included some science activities – which means that this is a math and science center for Preschool St. Patrick’s Day! Let’s take a look at some of these materials. Shamrock Observations – This set is designed to help children focus on small details, which is perfect when it comes to shamrocks and finding that elusive 4-leaf clover. There are images of a variety of different shamrocks, and then zoomed in images of the same shamrocks so that children…

  • Monster Bingo

Did you see the cute Monster Math Number Cards that I shared yesterday?! Well I made something else to go with them.  I love bingo because it is super easy to teach even the youngest children how to play.  With picture bingo all the children have to do is match the picture card that you hold up to a picture on their bingo card.  This cute Monster Bingo set includes 5 different bingo cards and all of the picture cards that you will need in order to call the game.  Your students can play this game independently as a center activity, or you can use it for a small group…

  • Focus on the Standards

It’s Wednesday, and here at Preschool Ponderings, that means time to focus on the standards.  Every Wednesday I choose an Early Learning Standard and share a number of activities that can be aligned with that particular standard.  Remember, the Standards that I use every day, and am most comfortable with are Ohio’s Early Learning Development Standards – you can review them here, however I’ve found that even if your State’s standards differ, many of these activities can still be aligned similarly. I’ve rounded up some great ideas today!Domain: MathematicsStrand: AlgebraTopic: Group and Categorize Algebra is all about patterns, but before you can begin recognizing and creating patterns children have to be…

  • Valentine math game

This is a super easy number recognition and matching game that I found on Pinterest and adapted for our classroom. I’ll tell you my version, and you can check out my pin boards for the original! First I traced a large heart on a sheet of paper, then I made 15 dots around the edge of the heart with a bingo marker. You could do more or less depending on the needs of your class, my guys really need to work on the teens. I then used the same color bingo marker to mark the bottoms of 15 Hershey kisses. I made three game using three different colors so that…
