Christmas Break Activities for Learning

Christmas break learning activities

Christmas break is quickly approaching – my girl has 8 days of school left – and I’m feeling a little unprepared. She’ll be home with me for 12 days, and that means that we need some kind of plan or we’ll both go stir crazy. Getting organized for something like this is right up my alley, so I took some time to pull together Christmas Break learning activities. I promise these are easy enough to replicate no matter what types of materials you have available! I’m including some affiliate links that might be helpful too.

The first think I did was grab a stack of these zipper pouches – I use them for everything because they’re bigger and stronger than plastic zipper bags. Then I started going through the stash of learning materials that we have around the house – most from the Dollar Spot at Target, because what teacher can’t resist that stuff?! I added some puzzles, play dough, craft sets, and drawing materials. Then I divided it all into the pouches so each day had a good mix of skills to practice. Here are some of those sets:

This one has a character puzzle that my girl will love (Dollar Tree is the BEST place to buy cheap kids puzzles), this Crayola dry erase set, CVC ring books, and Story Problems for Beginners.

A second set has some play dough and small tools, an opposites puzzle like this one, ornament patterning, and word family paint chips.

One more has sight word cards and some letter manipulatives, number puzzles, more CVC paint chips, and vocabulary cards from my What is a Year set.

My goal was to gather and organize some materials that we already had, and could use to make sure that *some* skill practice happened during break. Once the gathering was done it was time to organize – and I did that with my cute little Niimbot Label Maker. I labeled each pouch with a day of the week to help us stay on track. I took one more step and put all of the pouches in a wrapped gift box, I’m hoping that makes them a little more enticing!
