Back to School Wish List
I know, I know, we’ve hit that point in the summer where we’re closer to the start of school than we are to the end of the school year… I’m not sure how I feel about that. I’ve already bought my daughter’s school supplies, she doesn’t start until September but if I wait until then to look for school supplies, all I’ll find is Christmas decorations.
One thing that I love to do is buy a few extra items to throw in for her classroom. At this point in the year things are so much cheaper, so an extra box of crayons or tissues doesn’t add to much to my total. As a teacher I love to take advantage of this because it truly is easier to ask for supplies now, when parents are already buying them anyway, than it is to ask for them in the middle of the year when we all have other things on our minds.
One way to do this is to create an Amazon wish list and share the link with your families. You can also include a printed list in your welcome materials that are either mailed before school starts, or sent home at open house. If you have a classroom blog or social media platform you can use this to share your list too.
Some of the best items to ask for right now include;
- Art supplies (crayons, markers, watercolors, glue)
- Pencils
- Storage containers (book boxes, supply boxes)
- Kleenex
- Disinfecting wipes
- Notebooks or composition books
- Folders and binders
This is the perfect time to think ahead and prepare for any projects that you typically do throughout the year. If you put together portfolios then asking for binders makes perfect sense. If you do a lot of cut and paste activities then glue sticks are a must. Are there holiday activities that you need some of these materials for? What about the end of the year? Sourcing those materials right now will save some extra steps later!
