Creating a Productive Workspace

Now that we’ve made it past Labor Day I’m feeling the shift. It’s that time of year where fun and carefree summer vibes give way to a little more focus and hard work. One thing that always helps me when I’m really looking to buckle down a bit is to make sure my office space is really support me. I’ve had a few different workspaces over the years, and while they’ve all been very different, there are always elements that I lean on to improve productivity.
I’ve got to have a workspace where I feel comfortable. The best workspaces are those that you can walk into and instantly relax. We all need to be able to let our guard down and feel safe in order to do our best work. That can mean anything from having photos or art on the wall that is meaningful to a soft blanket over the back of the chair.
I also try to set up my space so that everything I need is at my fingertips – chargers, pens, notepads, headphones, a fingernail file. Having to get up to go find one of those things is a sure way to distract me from whatever I’m doing. Having all of the right paperwork easy to access is key too!
I can’t do clutter, that’s my type A personality. It stresses me out and provides a major distraction. When I can come in, settle down, and get to work I’ll always do my best. So having organizational systems that are easy, supportive, and helpful make a huge difference for me.
I’ve been working on redecorating my current workspace and I’m really leaning into things that make me happy. Walking into the space and feeling that involuntary smile on my face immediately changes my mood and provides the little boost that I need to start my day on the right foot. I’ve incorporated art that brings me joy, colors that life my mood, and textiles that feel comforting. I can’t wait to share photos when I have it all ready!
Check back later this week for some of my must have items in a comfortable, productive office!
