Winter Snow Fun

We’re supposed to have the snowiest winter in many years – according to local meteorologists – so I’m making sure that I’m prepared with all of the supplies we need to enjoy it fully. Here are some of my favorite snow play ideas so that you can get in on the fun with us!

Spraying colors on the snow – Fill spray bottles with water and add food coloring to each bottle. Take them outside and make your snow beautiful!

Eye droppers and colored water – This similar activity is better for indoors. fill a bin with snow and offer bowls of colored water and eye droppers.

Mittens, gloves, and snow – Give children a variety of gloves and mittens along with a bin full of snow. They can practice putting on each type of glove and feel what the snow feels like through each one.

Snow and molds – use shaped ice cube trays and sand toys to mold snow into fun shapes and snow castles.

Colored ice cubes in snow – Freeze colored water and add to a bin of snow. Children can observe what happens as the ice and snow melt together.

Measure the snow – use rulers to measure each snow fall and track these measurements over time.

Animals in the snow – Play with plastic arctic animals in a bin full of snow.

Look for tracks – Go outside and look for animal tracks in the snow. Try to identify what animal left them.

I’m also looking forward to making all of the snowmen and snow angels, they’re classics for a reason!
