Staycation Ideas for Adults

Grownup Staycation

I’ve always spent the last few weeks of summer doing everything in my power to set my daughter up for a successful transition back to school – you can read all of my strategies in these posts:

While all of this attention and focus is definitely helpful for my daughter, it leaves me feeling a little burnt out. That makes it even harder for me to get back into my own work routine. I spent much of last fall really fighting to get systems and schedules in place for myself. This year, instead of fighting the burnout I decided to embrace it.

The first full week that my daughter was in school I granted myself a week off. I did everything that I didn’t get done over the summer or had been looking forward to doing once I had time to myself. Wandering target alone is completely different than trying to get through the store with a kid in tow! Here are some of the things that filled my little staycation.

  • Shopping for craft supplies
  • Driving an hour to go to Trader Joe’s
  • Getting coffee and reading a book
  • Taking my time wandering the library
  • Working on sewing projects
  • Deep cleaning my studio space
  • Catching up with my favorite Youtube vloggers
  • Binging true crime documentaries

This was the perfect way to wrap up summer and ease into more time to myself. Taking time to really enjoy all of these projects and slow moments left me with clear headspace. Now I’m motivated and more than ready to get back to work!
