Putting yourself first
It’s hard to make yourself a priority! As teachers, most of us are naturally giving. We see our role as supporting others, so the idea of saying no to someone else in order to take care of ourselves feels icky – but it doesn’t have to! I’ve truly been able to change my own perspective by remembering what we’re told in any airplane safety speech; You have to put your own oxygen mask on before you can help someone else with theirs. This is true for taking care of yourself in other ways too! When we don’t take the time to give ourselves what we need – rest, fuel, mental…

Flu season has been a doozy this year, and it’s officially hit our home with a vengeance. While I’m not sick yet… I’ve definitely had a lot of sleepless nights, because that’s what moms do. This has me thinking about all of the times that I’ve had to manage a classroom when I definitely wasn’t at the top of my game – sick, but not sick enough to justify a day off, tired from a newborn or sick kid, fighting a migraine, dealing with personal distractions – all of the things that life throws at us! Here are the tips and tricks that have always helped me get through those…

My Current Hobbies
The cold weather has definitely kept me cooped up inside, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve been bored! I firmly believe that our hobbies make us who we are. They allow us opportunities to peek inside of ourselves and find out what makes our hearts happy. This winter there have been a few things that I’ve really enjoyed. Baking has always been one of my favorite things to do, and cookies will always be my first love. There’s a cookie for every possible occasion, and I always make sure to have the basic ingredients on hand. Classic chocolate chip are my family’s favorite. My daughter doesn’t love cake, but has…
