Fine Motor Orange Pomanders
Have you ever made orange pomanders? I remember making these in preschool, but I haven’t seen them around much recently. I always love to refresh some of the activities that left an impression on me personally, so it seems like this one might be a keeper. They are very easy to make, you just need some oranges (any kind will work – even little clementines), whole cloves, something to poke holes with (a toothpick, push pin, screw, etc.), and some twine or ribbon. Start by showing the children how to poke starter holes into the skin of the orange. Once the starter holes have been made it is easy to…

Halloween Safety
Ready or not, Halloween is almost here. While it’s fun to do math activities with candy corn and explore pumpkin guts in the sensory table, there’s one very important Halloween lesson that I don’t want to forget about. Halloween safety doesn’t always get the recognition that it deserves, but a few simple strategies could make a huge difference. Talk to your students. Remind them to watch for cars, stay on sidewalks, cross streets at cross walks, and check with their parents before eating any candy. These might not be the most fun conversations, but it never hurts to be that voice in the back of their heads. I’ve shared this…

Easy Teacher Halloween Costumes
Last year I had a great idea for a Halloween costume. I bought all of the supplies and put it together, and didn’t try it on until the night before I needed it. It. Looked. Awful. So I needed a last minute costume – I rifled through my closet and put together the perfect librarian costume – a pencil skirt, a book-themed graphic tee, a cardigan, a bun, and glasses. I grabbed a couple of books off the shelf and it was a hit. My last minute costume turned out so great that I’ve challenged myself to come up with a costume out of my closet every year. This year…

Fun Ideas for Star Marshmallows
I cannot resist holiday-themed treats, I always buy them, use a few for the holiday, and then find them in my cupboard 3 months later. One thing that I purchase without fail (knowing full well that I will never use) are holiday shaped marshmallows. So this year I thought I would share some fun ideas for using them up, even after the holiday, in the hopes that this list will inspire me to use them up! If you missed out on the 4th of July Marshmallow fun you can probably still find them in the grocery store – maybe even on clearance! So what exactly could you do with these…
