  • Teacher Appreciation Week – Don’t Forget about Yourself!

I’m all for celebrating other teachers (and fully believe that we need to make time to do this more than once a year) but I also know that no one knows you better than you know yourself – So this year, I’m encouraging you to celebrate all of your own hard work! Take a little time to pamper yourself or indulge in a special treat.  You certainly deserve it, and let’s be honest, some of my favorite gifts are things that I’ve bought for myself! Whether you feel like making an investment in something you really want, or you’re looking to be a little more frugal, here are some of…

  • When Educators believe in each other

Have you seen the TED talk by the amazing Ms. Rita Pierson.  It is powerful.  She puts into words every single reason that most of us became teachers in the first place. This quote from her talk hits me to the core every single time that I read it; I fully believe that every child needs a person in their corner.  A person who tells them they’re worth it, they can be great, and do amazing things.  A self-fulfilling prophecy can be a powerful thing, when you tell someone that they are incredible enough times, they start to believe you. I’ve always worked at lab schools (with ECE students from local colleges and universities), and I’ve often had students who don’t take my work seriously because I am young, and in some cases, younger than they are.  So over the years I’ve come up with some tried and true methods for being taken seriously, which has…

  • Welcome to Preschool!

My co-teacher and I found out today that we would be teaching pPreschool starting this semester (3 weeks!). We are so used to our toddler classroom that we are a bit overwhelmed with all of the new possibilities and procedures to learn, but we are excited to try something new, and we consider ourselves lucky to get to work with a great group of children. All of the changes are sure to bring some new learning experiences, so I’ve decided that blogging about them will not only allow me to share them with you, but will also help me to appreciate how far we have come. I also plan on…
