Fun Holidays to Celebrate in March

If you’ve spent any time reading this blog you know that I LOVE a holiday, especially holidays that I can celebrate in the classroom. Of course there are the traditional popular holidays, but sometimes it’s fun to throw in a silly holiday like National Broccoli Day. Here are some ideas for the month of March. All of these are from one of my favorite websites, nationaltoday.com. March 1 – National Pig Day, Share a Smile Day March 2 – Read Across America Day March 3 – National Anthem Day March 4 – National Safety Day March 6 – National Dentist Day March 7 – National Cereal Day, National Dress in…

    Favorite Sick Day Products

I think we’ve finally gotten rid of the germs that invaded us last week, but ugh, it was definitely a WEEK! Here are some of the products that we couldn’t do without while recovering (all links are affiliates). Pedialyte Freezer Pops – Popsicles are an everyday staple in our house, but even morse so when sore throats are present. These popsicles from pedialyte have the added bonus of the trusted hydration formula. They also feel like a special treat that kids only get…

  • Making health a priority

    Putting yourself first

It’s hard to make yourself a priority! As teachers, most of us are naturally giving. We see our role as supporting others, so the idea of saying no to someone else in order to take care of ourselves feels icky – but it doesn’t have to! I’ve truly been able to change my own perspective by remembering what we’re told in any airplane safety speech; You have to put your own oxygen mask on before you can help someone else with theirs. This is true for taking care of yourself in other ways too! When we don’t take the time to give ourselves what we need – rest, fuel, mental…

  • Flu Season in the Classroom

    Teaching when you’re sick

Flu season has been a doozy this year, and it’s officially hit our home with a vengeance. While I’m not sick yet… I’ve definitely had a lot of sleepless nights, because that’s what moms do. This has me thinking about all of the times that I’ve had to manage a classroom when I definitely wasn’t at the top of my game – sick, but not sick enough to justify a day off, tired from a newborn or sick kid, fighting a migraine, dealing with personal distractions – all of the things that life throws at us! Here are the tips and tricks that have always helped me get through those…

    My Current Hobbies

The cold weather has definitely kept me cooped up inside, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve been bored! I firmly believe that our hobbies make us who we are. They allow us opportunities to peek inside of ourselves and find out what makes our hearts happy. This winter there have been a few things that I’ve really enjoyed. Baking has always been one of my favorite things to do, and cookies will always be my first love. There’s a cookie for every possible occasion, and I always make sure to have the basic ingredients on hand. Classic chocolate chip are my family’s favorite. My daughter doesn’t love cake, but has…

    Planner Supplies for 2025

I see my planner as an extension of myself. That might sound a little dramatic, but I’m serious! It’s where I keep track of all of the tasks I need to complete, but it also serves as a record of special events, notes about things like snow days, birthday plans, vacation packing lists, and all of the things that are important to me and to my family. Since I use my planner as both a calendar and a scrapbook I’ve gathered quite a few materials to help really make it mine. Here are my favorite planning products for 2025 (all links are affiliates. First things first, I have to keep…

  • How I’m Using My Happy Planner

I’m a paper planner girl. I’ve tried digital options (you can even find some of my posts about them if you search), but there’s something about being able to look at the full spread, write tasks in by hand, and really turn the pages that just works for me. I’ve always had what I consider a photographic memory, and for some reason that just works better when I can visualize words written on a page – not a tablet or screen. This year I went with a big Happy Planner (affiliate link) and I couldn’t be happier – no pun intended. The price is truly unmatched. All of the other…
