• Handwashing Routines for Preschool

Start the year out with healthy routines that are easy to follow all school year long! I’ve created some visual aids to use as reminders.  I have a set for hand washing in general and a set for hand washing after blowing your nose. Each set includes sequencing cards, which fit into a pocket chart.  They also have numbered sequencing cards which can be posted by the sink, or made into a ring book and hung where children can reach them easily.  You can use them for memory and sequencing activities in addition to posting them in the classroom. I also made a set of writing prompts and discussion questions…

  • School Year Germs

    Fighting Back to School Germs

My daughter has been back in school for two and a half weeks – and she’s already brought home two different rounds of germs. We’ve all been feeling it, so fighting germs is the name of the game at this point. Here are some of the strategies that I’m leaning into to help get us through it, and hopefully build up some immunity! We’re really focusing on healthy meals. Our bodies need all the fruits, vegetables and protein that we can get to fight those germs. In addition to balanced meals, this focus is helping us work back into a more normal dinner schedule after a summer of eating at…

  • It’s ok to do NOTHING

Have you ever tried to do absolutely nothing? If you’re anything like me, it isn’t long before the voice starts – you know, that one that says “you should be doing something.” There’s always going to be a task that can be checked off of a to-do list, and errand that needs run, or something that needs cleaned. That’s just life. It’s ok to ignore that voice. In fact, sometimes its necessary to ignore that voice. Sit on the couch and watch terrible tv shows, go take a nap, sit outside and enjoy a sunset, take a slow walk. These are good for our spirits, and a valid form of…

  • Intentionality when things get busy!

It’s that time of year when we start seeing all of the lists – fall bucket lists, 800 things to make with pumpkin, autumn memories every family should make, how to have the most instagram-worthy fall – you know you’ve seen them. There’s a lot of pressure to do ALL THE THINGS. To be fair, a lot of these fall “things” are really fun. I love an apple orchard, pumpkin patch, and fall festival. But just because all of these things are a ton of un doesn’t mean that we have to do them all every single year. Life is busy, being intentional during those busy seasons makes a huge…

  • Autumn Classroom Supplies

    Fall Supplies for Preschool

My favorite thing about autumn is the coziness. After spending so much time outside all summer, fall gives us a chance to come back inside and really embrace the environment and create the space we want. Here are my favorite fall materials for the preschool classroom. All links are affiliates. • Great Podcasts for Preschoolers

I started listening to podcasts with my daughter as a way to get out of listening to the same kids’ songs in the car over and over. Since then, we’ve both learned so much! Here are the podcasts that we’ve loved, and that we still turn to regularly. But Why is from Vermont Public Broadcasting. Episodes focus on answering questions sent in by kids – everything from “Why are foods spicy?” to “Do cats like to swim?” It’s easy to listen to and always provokes more questions that we want to dig into on our own. Frozen Forces of Nature is from Disney and ABC. This is a brand new…

    Autumn Preschool Activities

September is here, and with it comes all things autumn! This time between the back to school craziness and Halloween – which ushers in the chaos of the holiday season – is special because it offers a little time to slow down and settle in. I love exploring autumn in the classroom as a way to encourage paying attention to our environment and noticing all of the changes that are happening around us. Here are some easy, printable activities to support your autumn preschool learning.

  • Finding Motivation

Motivation is not a constant thing – it comes and goes, and usually not when we want it to! I often find myself lacking the motivation to really dive into a project. When this happens, the most helpful thing is to ask myself why. Why am I resisting whatever needs to be done? At the beginning of the school year my answer is almost always that I’m burnt out from the summer! Summer is the time where I give myself to my family fully, so I often need a little “me time” once everyone is back into a more normal school mode. I’ve learned not to fight this, I give…
