  • 20 Uses for seasonal ice cube molds

  • Friday Freebie – Christmas Cookie Counting

Happy Friday! I must have Christmas cookies on the brain, last week I shared a freebie and activities from the holiday cookie party I threw for my kiddos last year.  This week I have a counting activity that you can add to your Christmas cookie theme. With this Christmas Cookie Counting freebie children count the correct number of cookies onto the plate. There are two sets of plates, one with dots that correspond to the number to help children count correctly, and one set without the dots to challenge counters with higher level skills. The freebie includes numbers 1-5, if you want more practice, I’ve included the numbers 1-10 in…

  • Friday Freebie – Thanksgiving Roll and Graph

Happy Friday! For me, November means Thanksgiving.  I spend the entire month planning and re-planning what I’m going to take to our Thanksgiving celebrations. I search endlessly for new recipes, and inevitably end up making the same old favorites.  Today’s freebie fights right in with my monthly theme of food! This cute roll and graph from Ashley Hughes is all about Thanksgiving dinner.  I can see kiddos loving this game, and learning so much as they begin to recognize the vocabulary and practice recording their data on the graph.  This would be a great activity for large groups or smalls groups, so go download it and add it to those…

I’ve got a ton of camping themed activities to share with you today! These are perfect for summer and a great way to do some reviewing, without really feeling like work.   I love putting together these alphabet books, it is a huge personal victory when I am able to come up with a word for every single letter of the alphabet, the camping alphabet book is one of my favorites.  It includes words like E is for Evergreen, I is for Insects, and M is for Marshmallow.  You can get your copy here.   Letter matching is a great way to help children practice recognizing letters that are both…

  • Activities for practicing shape comparison and analysis

It’s Wednesday, and here at Preschool Ponderings, that means time to focus on the standards.  Every Wednesday I choose an Early Learning Standard and share a number of activities that can be aligned with that particular standard.  Remember, the Standards that I use every day, and am most comfortable with are Ohio’s Early Learning Development Standards – you can review them here, however I’ve found that even if your State’s standards differ, many of these activities can still be aligned similarly. I’ve rounded up some great ideas today! Domain: MathematicsStrand: GeometryTopic: Analyze, Compare, and Create ShapesThis standard encourages students to look at shapes critically.  Children should be able to recognize that…

  • Friday Freebie – Seed Math

Happy Friday! My posts this week have been all about spending time outside; Exploring, Taking Walks, and Gardening – today’s freebie is a math activity that would be great to do while you take a break from planting the garden. This seed math set is a really cute way to help children practice sorting different seeds, counting them, and graphing them.  It is also a really nice visual of what the seeds for each plant look like, one that you could refer to all summer long.  Go download this freebie from Elizabeth McCarter and enjoy your weekend, we’ve almost made it to Memorial Day!
