The Year of the Homemade Gift

I shared my word for the year at the beginning of the month, but I haven’t let you in on another intention that I set for 2023. I’ve decided that this will be “the year of the homemade gift.” I’m challenging myself to make things for every gifting occasion this year and I’ve had just as much fun planning what I want to make and give as I know I will putting it all together. January is a big birthday month for our friends and family, so here are a couple of the gifts that I’ve already created and given: A bright, sunshiny quilt for a happy little girl A…

  • Quick Teacher Appreciation Gifts

For the first time ever I get to share what I put together for my daughter’s teachers.  How cute are these?! For the bouquets, my little one did some finger painting and then I cut the paintings into hearts using my Cricut.  I attached all of the hearts into the flower shape using glue dots, and then I stuck them on a green straw.   The books are copies of the Classroom Recipe Book that I put together when I was teaching toddlers. I was constantly looking u the same recipes on my phone and I was sick of searching for them over and over, so I complied them all into…

  • Holiday Thank You Notes Made Easy

This time of year is a little chaotic.  There are holiday events for school, on top of personal holiday parties and celebrations. There are lists upon lists of things to bake, people to shop for, and traditions to remember.  It can be difficult to remember and manage all of this, adding one more thing to your to-do list can make your head spin.  For me, one of the hardest things to manage at the holidays is finding time to write thank you cards for the gifts that I receive from students and colleagues.  These are so important, but so easy to forget because there are just so many other tasks…

  • Preschool Resource Review – Wonderplay Too

I know that back to school season is in full swing, but I thought I’d do something a little different this year.  Instead of sharing tips, tricks, and classroom ideas (because I’ve shared plenty of those already) I thought that I would share some of my favorite resource books.  Everyday this week I’ll do a review of a different book that I have read, loved, and use regularly. These will be books that are part of my own personal resource library and have helped me in some way – whether they’ve made planning easier, changed my teaching philosophy fundamentally, or helped me understand my students better.  I hope that you…

  • Last minute gift idea

If you’re still looking for something easy to make for your students or co-workers, check out the idea I have for you: I whipped up some of these snowman marshmallows over the weekend because I had some extra frosting left over from baking sugar cookies.  These are so easy to make that you could even have your students make some of them for their families. All you need is marshmallows, black frosting, and orange frosting.  I used piping bags to get the small details, but you could always pick up some tubes of the pre-mixed colored frosting for even less mess and hassle. Add a packet of hot chocolate to…
