Holidays

  • Let’s Celebrate

I know it’s Wednesday, and usually Wednesday is “Focus on the Standards” day, but today is special so we’re going to do something a little different.  Today we’re celebrating because this is my 200th post!!!! Wow, 200 posts.  It’s amazing to me that I’ve actually written about that many different things, but what is even more amazing is that people actually read what I’ve written.  So to thank all of you for reading and being so supportive I have some thing for you. Because I am so thankful, I thought I would stick with that theme, and create something that you could also use for Thanksgiving.  Click this link to…

  • A Halloween Candy Activity

My school did a local Halloween parade yesterday (so fun!) and I swiped some left over candy (can you believe we had left over candy?!) so that I could show you this fun activity. Of course, the more time I spent thinking about the activity, the more ideas I had, and then it became a printable, so you get a freebie too! The idea is really simple, but it uses candy, so I guarantee your students will want to participate! Just gather a good variety of candy, and use the charts that I’ve made to help your students figure out which letters they can find on the candy wrappers.  You…

  • Friday Freebie – Halloween Safety Book

Happy Friday! I am so excited about today’s freebie that I want to shout it from the rooftops – I am going to personally share this activity book with every single student, teacher, and parent that I know because the information is important, and the delivery is oh so developmentally appropriate. Today’s freebie is a Halloween Safety booklet from Miss Kindergarten Love (LOVE HER!).  The booklet includes great reminders for students and parents, such as making sure to check candy before it gets eaten, use a flashlight or reflective tape so that you can be seen, think about using makeup instead of wearing a mask so that you are able…

  • Halloween Decorations for the Classroom

I love to change up my decorations at home to go with the seasons, but I’ve never really done it at school, mostly because I can’t afford to buy decorations for home and school – and because I don’t have a place to store those decorations.  BUT that’s all about to change. I really wanted to do something cute for Halloween, so I created a super cute set of matching classroom decorations – bunting for the wall, cupcake toppers (or stickers), treat bag toppers, name tags, a door decoration, and instructions for a class Halloween wreath.  Not only will my classroom look cute, but for the first time ever, I…

  • Holiday Shopping on a Teacher’s Budget

I accomplished a major task this weekend – I finished all of my Christmas shopping (I know, yes, it’s October).  I love getting it all out of the way early because then I get to enjoy the holidays and do fun stuff like baking and watching holiday movies without worrying about when I’m going to pick up those last couple of gifts. I usually have to spread out the gift-buying, waiting for my next pay check to pick up the rest of the presents on my list, but I tried something new this year and it worked so well that I had to share – I’ll definitely be doing this…

  • Friday Freebie

It’s Friday and it’s a holiday – double celebration today! I have a really cute freebie for you, i’m so glad that I found this one, because it is definitely something that I would use in my classroom, so I’m excited to share it with you.  This letter match and counting set is from Special Teacher for Special Kids.  I love the colors, the graphics, and the simplicity of this set.  It includes cards with each letter of the alphabet  in uppercase and lowercase so that children can match them. It also includes number cards that children can match with quantities of patriotic themed objects.  This set could also be…

  • No plans for the 4th? I’ve got you covered!

The 4th of July has always been my favorite holiday, even as a young child I would choose July 4th over Christmas.  Now, some of this may have to do with the fact that my birthday is on July 9, so my family often had my birthday celebration on the Fourth of July.  But even as I got older, I loved singing along with the patriotic country songs that they play on the radio all day, wearing my star spangled t-shirt, saluting our troops, creating the barbecue to end all barbecues, and oohing and ahhing as fireworks exploded in the sky. We never had huge Fourth of July celebrations, but…

  • Easter Leftovers

I hope you had a wonderful Easter! I had a great time relaxing with my family, the highlight of my weekend was our amazing weather, I spent much of Sunday soaking up some sunshine on my parents back porch and it was perfect! I don’t know about you, but I have a ton of leftovers, and i’m not talking about ham, mostly, I mean jelly beans. Thank goodness I love them, but that usually means I end up eating the entire bag by myself. My solution to this is to take them to school.  My kiddos did a lot of jellybean math last week – patterning, counting, tallying, graphing, but…

  • Already thinking about next year!

St. Patrick’s day is officially over (thank goodness, because I only have one green shirt!) but that doesn’t mean you can’t plan for next year. I’m part of a great linky party with all kinds of amazing March resources, and tons of activities for St. Patrick’s day.  Go check it out at Dr. Clements’ Kindergarten and grab some great stuff so that you are prepared for next year!

  • Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I hope that you are having a great day full of good luck and mischief! My students didn’t catch anything in their Leprechaun traps, but the Leprechaun did leave us quite the surprise! We enjoyed the party atmosphere, along with some rainbow chips cookies.  I love this holiday because it gives me the opportunity to let my students just be kids.  I try to take advantage of any opportunity to make things magical, and inspire just a little extra fun. I could go on and on about how many standards we met while building Leprechaun traps, and doing St. Patrick’s day themed math and language activities, but sometimes what we…
